Coming up with writing idea after writing idea is not always easy. Sometimes writers get in a rut when their unsure of how what to write. Next thing you know a lot of time goes by before you "pick up a pen." You don't have to fall into a rut. Start using writing prompts to get your juices flowing.

 

Creative Writing Tip #1: For the first draft of any writing project consider "free writing." That's when you write without pretense or judgment. Basically, you turn off your inner editor.

Creative Writing Tip #2: Our childhoods are filled with memories we can spin into stories. So leverage your background to create a compelling narrative.

a) what you miss about being a kid
b) how your favorite teacher influenced you
c) a time you were bulled
d) a time you bullied someone else
e) your first memory of your father
f) your first memory of your mother 

   

Creative Writing Tip #3: Put yourself in another person's head, and describe what you would do if you were in their shoes. Below is a writing prompt where you put yourself in a liar's shoes.
